Originally by: Springhill I can't see why the game is referred to as an MMO. As I see it, it's as much of an MMO as, say, Battlefield series. I can't even find an option to join a same game with a friend.
I've played the beta for a few days now and I'm not very impressed. The "rookie battles" with the first few tanks are pretty fun and fair, but as soon as you get a somewhat crappy tier 3(?) light tank you're thrown in with heavy tanks and fun ensues. For others that is, since you are nothing but cannon fodder in your little panzer III. Your cannon can't penetrate the tougher armor on bigger tanks and it is more than likely that the very first hit you take from them will end your game. You can try to take out their tracks, but you will most likely perish in doing so, and your sacrifice won't make much of a difference, either. The tracks are automatically repaired after a short while. Unless I'm mistaken one of the intended role(in-game) for the light tanks is recon and scouting, but they aren't fast and agile enough to zoom around the battlefield evading enemy fire. There are no "tracking issues" so to say, and auto-aim won't make it any better for smaller, faster tanks. Currently, however, there doesn't seem to be any reason to pick a light tank over a heavy one, provided you can commandeer both.
The tanks could also "slide" off any obstacles (corners, stones, piles of debris" you might run into, instead of completely stopping until you reverse and correct your course, would make the gameplay a bit smoother. Though I wouldn't mind if alternatively you could just crush everything if you had enough mass, instead of just cars and fences.
Aww damn, that's a lot of whine, but I had to vent it somewhere. If there's someone more experienced with the game and could give some tips or correct me, I'd appreciate it. Tanks are close to my heart (army trained me as a tank mechanic), and I want to give this game a chance.

I'm happy to respond to this. OK tier three sucks. There's the rookie BG's and there's big boy arena. On release, there will be tons more options such as clans wars, platoons (grouping with friends), all that happy friendly stuff. I wouldnt really call WoT an MMO but it's PvP on crack. I tried it for an hour and was like 'meh' - in the same situaiton as yourself and basically fodder for the big boys OR anyone who knew what the hell they were doing, or some guy with a lucky shot, or... etc etc etc.
But I gave it a try the next day and ending playing for ten hours straight. I'm currently, middle of tiers 6 in german line playing mediums and TD's. One beautiful thing about this game is it's continual play - your tank gets blown up - you 'quit battle' (you still get the rewards for what you did) and hop in another one. You can cycle through 3, sometimes four tanks this way - four only if you are prone to dying very fast.
As a general rule it seems almost all tanks initially kinda suck - crew is quite a large factor here - once they get over 80% they really start to shine. My PIII is now 110% on primary crew and training up secondary skills and this thing is a beast. I hunt Arties, orbit around them their cannot track but all the artie teammates trying to shoot me are as likely to hit their friend.
But it's like non stop pvp in tanks. and I hate CS and MW and those kinda games....but something about tanks got me hooked.
